Garbage and Recycling
Community Compost Pilot Project Call for Expression of interes
Garbage and RecyclingTown of Stephenville Community Compost Initiative
Call for Expression of Interest
Locally-based composting promotes social inclusion and empowerment, greens neighborhoods, builds healthy soils, supports local food production and security, embeds a culture of composting know-how in the community, circulates dollars in the community, sustains local communities' jobs, and strengthens the skills of the local workforce. Organic waste is one of the heaviest sources of waste in household garbage and one of the most harmful when sent to a landfill as it contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. Composting is nature's way of recycling organic waste by breaking the material down naturally, mimicking the earth's natural processes.
To reduce waste destined for landfills, the Town of Stephenville has launched a new composting stream. Residents can obtain free and high-quality compost for personal use, a green bin and a compost caddy by participating in the Community Compost Pilot Program.
Why participate?
Help the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions that affect climate change
Receive a free high-quality compost for your personal use
Receive a green bin and a compost caddy
Help the town assess the feasibility of offering more organic waste management programs in the future.
