Important Public Notice - Manganese Water Canadian Drinking Water Quality Report

Jennifer Brake

Update: Canadian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines for Manganese in drinking water is 0.12 mg/L. The town received a test result of 0.52 mg/L. For more information on the guidelines please visit Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality: Guideline Technical Document – Manganese - Canada.ca

The Town of Stephenville has received Manganese Water Results report from Service NL.

RE: MANGANESE WATER RESULTS

please be advised that a high Manganese result was detected in the municipal well WS-G-0716, sampled at the Town Office. This office was made aware of sample results with Manganese exceeding the Canadian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines. Manganese cannot be removed by boiling so water cannot be made safe in that way. Manganese is a concern for infants under the age of one who are fed powdered infant formula. Infants given only “pre-mixed”, “ready to use” formula or breast fed infants are not a concern. Safe alternate sources of water should be used in mixing powdered infant formula. Bottled water or sources known to be safe would be acceptable. This water can still be used for washing, cleaning, bathing and other household uses in connection with infants under the age of one and all other residents. This water is safe to consume for any residents other than infants under the age of one.
